Irish artist Ailbhe Ní Bhriain layers suggestive worlds that serve to explore imperial legacy, human displacement and the Anthropocene in her work, which includes media such as film, computer-generated imagery, collage, tapestry, print, and installation. These intertwined themes are approached through an associative use of the narrative and a carefully crafted visual language that borders on the surreal. The artist often draws on museums and archives and uses the impact of new technologies on our environment. The resulting worlds are at once idiosyncratic, compelling and deeply unsettling.
At INNSBRUCK INTERNATIONAL, Ní Bhriain will show two of her large-format jacquard tapestries from 2023, as well as one new photographic commission and a new sculptural hybrid of Untitled (Dream Pool) and We have reached a certain depth.
